The European Geography Association (‘EGEA’ or ’we’) is committed to protecting your privacy while you use the EGEA website (‘the site’). This Privacy Statement mainly applies to registered users of the site. This document explains and governs data collection and usage by EGEA.

By accessing the site, i.e. by signing up and/or using your login and password, you agree to EGEA processing your personal data as set out below. If you do not agree to have your information used in any of the ways described in this Privacy Statement, you must discontinue use of said resources.

Personal Information

During the registration process EGEA asks for your personal information, including but not limited to your name, your email address, your date of birth and other demographic and geographic information. You may provide further information also later on in your profile at your choice. After registration your personal information will be visible on your EGEA profile to all registered users. The only publicly available personal information is your photo, username and real name as well as entity and member status. During the registration for activities the organisers may ask you for further personal information. In some cases, EGEA will collect your specific data (example: IP Address when posting, email address when sending a message through the contact form).

EGEA will only use your personal information for your security and/or for internal organisational reasons. EGEA will not pass on your details to third parties without your explicit consent and/or unless required by law.


The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Please note that the security of your personal data also depends on the protection of your account password. Please do not disclose your account password to unauthorised people and choose a reasonably “strong” password. Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personal data by posting it on public parts of our website, this information may be collected and used by others.
