Hello EGEANS,
A friend of mine is participating in a really interesting research on how to utilize geographical information provided by the geotags of Flickr images
for all kind of applications, navigation systems and so on. He's doing an amazingly interesting online survey which you can access under the link
below.
If you have some time available, please be so kind to participate. You know how hard it is to get some feedback on surveys right?
Thank You very much
Basti
http://argoomap.uni-muenster.de
The survey gives you 2 options to select Münster or any other city in the world. If you are familiar with Münster, NRW, please select the Münster
survey otherwise please select the worldwide survey for other cities. Also please forward it to your friends and family.
This web survey is about answering questions based on the most interesting pictures of the place you have selected. It provides you a chance to look
at some of the fascinating pictures of that location and at the same time challenge your knowledge/familiarity of the place.
This Survey is done as part of a student project at Uni-Münster. It provides an example to understand the pictures and (geographic feature pictures
vs. non-geographic) and data (tags, location info attached to the tags by the users) uploaded to Flickr.
We are interested in pictures that show some recognizable geographic features of the place, such as streets, buildings, open spaces, monuments, points
of interests and so on that can be identified with the place selected by you and place name tags of these pictures.
You participation is very valuable to us in completing this study. Thanks in advance for your participation.
Cheers!!!!! Anand Reddy |

Already participated. It's a really nice one, not so boring like most questionnaires |

Well, I just tried to do this survey, but it didn't work. Every time when I wanted to start the survey - after selecting the city - this message was
on the screen:
"We dont know how you reached here. Click the link Below to the start the survey"
So I restart the survey, but it's always the same...
What is wrong? Did I make any mistakes in this - quite easy - procedure? |

hehe, maybe that's the basic idea
But the funny thing is, that I got requests for this survey from 3 different sources and all have been today |
| on the longterm the economy and the environment are the same thing |

Great, I have tried Kraków, Małopolskie, Polska but I end up with other places (Massachusetts in Firefox, Opolskie in Internet Explorer). Probably
because of the Polish characters that cause problems?
Amsterdam and the place where I grew up, worked fine!
@Basti: As you are asking our assistance, please inform us of the results of the survey too ! I am looking forward to read the results. |

People who haven't done it yet, please complete!! The same friend of Basti told me:
Till now, just 500 answers and there should be 5000! for a world survey.
And still 400 has to be done for a Muenster survey.
PLease share the link with your firends. |

Maybe you should first fix your site. As I already told in my post of July 2nd 2010: when I choose for example Krakow (Kraków, Małopolskie, Polska),
I turn up being questioned about Massachusetts when using Firefox as browser (and Opolskie when using Internet Explorer). That is not working, is
it?
Moreover, we would like to get some guarantee that we will be informed here about the outcome of your study too... That sounds reasonable, doesn't it? |

Hi All,
I'm the one who is coordinating the survey. I joined the group today. Thanks Basti and Maze for posting and to all of you for participating.
Sorry about the problem that some of you have faced. While searching it accepts English characters and gives error when u type other ones. I will try
to fix it soon.
Alex, can you please let me know which city you are searching so I can try to find the reason for the error. The survey works for any place on the
world as long as Flickr website has geotag photos for that place.
You DO ANY NUMBER OF TIMES for MUENSTER AND OTHER CITIES, there is no limit.
For Muenster the photo sample size is 1000 and for all other cities it is 500 most interesting pictures from 2008 and 09. We assume the crowd sourcing
or collective intelligence leads to better results for each picture. We repeat each picture atleast 5-6 different users. Due to which I need more
participants. As long as you are on the same network n computer it wont repeat the pictures that you have already answered. It will show different
pictures.
I will give you bi-weekly updates about the survey and also the final results.
You can follow us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/geotag20/120801414628920?ref=ts) Twitter(geotag2)

Thanks again |

I tried to start the survey with "Bonn", but there were the problems I explained above. Now I did it again and everything worked quite well. |

people, I am confused ...
1) "Does the location on the map match the picture's content?" ... are you asking about where the picture was taken from or about the object in the
picture?
2) If there are more features, which one should I take care about? .. like if there is a bridge, a river and a castle behind, how should I
distinguish?
3) what if I cannot adress/locate the object in the picture with offered words? .. I have "bridge", but not "Charles"
4) how can I create a place name it it usually consist of two words, where one is not a place name it self ... like Charles Bridge
5) there is duplicity ... difference makes just the language ... what if there is Prague in 4 different languages ... or location in one and the name
of the object in 2 languages?
I worry that I've done more wrong than right (garbage in - garbage out) |
Life is like a journey to a far-away, high peak. You have to cross bottoms of many deep valleys on your way up.
(But when you'll get to the top, what will you do? Even the journey might be the goal, so don't hurry on your way up!) |

I had the same questions as Honsk, and I still have.
I also wonder what is a place name? Is it a bridge, a tower, a botanic garden, etc. or the name of it (in my opinion it is not) or is it limited to a
certain surface such as a quarter of a city, a city, village, region, province, region, community, country, etc.
It still yields Massachusetts when I fill in Kraków, Małopolskie, Polska. |

Sorry for taking longer to reply as I was in a remote location and did not have access to internet for past 2 months. Answers to the questions raised
by Honsk n Rink
1) "Does the location on the map match the picture's content?" ... are you asking about where the picture was taken from or about the object in the
picture?
**** BOTH ARE RIGHT, IT CAN BE EITHER OBJECT LOCATION OR PHOTOGRAPHERS LOCATION
2) If there are more features, which one should I take care about? .. like if there is a bridge, a river and a castle behind, how should I
distinguish?
****EVERYTHING AND IF YOU HAVE PLACE NAME TAGS FOR ALL THEN IT S EVEN BETTER
3) what if I cannot adress/locate the object in the picture with offered words? .. I have "bridge", but not "Charles"
*****IF THE TAGS DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT PLACE NAME FOR THE PICTURE THEN YOU JUST CLICK SUBMIT - YOU HAVE TO SELECT ONLY PLACE NAME TAGS THAT ARE
RELEVANT
4) how can I create a place name it it usually consist of two words, where one is not a place name it self ... like Charles Bridge
**** I THINK CHARLES BRIDGE (PRAGUE) IS PLACE NAME, IT REFERS TO LOCATION OF BRIDGE IN PRAGUE. SOME TIMES NAME CAN BE TOGETHER LIKE "
CHARLESBRIDGE", EVEN THIS IS RIGHT. IN 'FLICKR' WEBSITE THERE ARE SOME RULES ON HOW TO DEFINE TAGS THAT HAVE TWO WORDS, IT SHOULD BE WITH IN DOUBLE
QUOTES OTHER WISE IT TAKES AS TWO SEPARATE WORDS SO SOME USERS FOLLOW THIS RULE AND SOME OF THEM JOIN DIFFERENT WORDS IN TO ONE WORD.
5) there is duplicity ... difference makes just the language ... what if there is Prague in 4 different languages ... or location in one and the name
of the object in 2 languages?
****YOU SHOULD SELECT ALL THE PLACE NAMES WHICH ARE IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. FOR EXAMPLE : PRAGUE CAN BE MENTIONED IN DIFF LANGUAGES, SUCH AS - PRAHA-
PRAG- PRAAG-Prâg-Prāga-Prago-Prága
I worry that I've done more wrong than right (garbage in - garbage out **** THATS OK , QUESTIONS SEEMS TO BE TRICKY
----
I also wonder what is a place name? Is it a bridge, a tower, a botanic garden, etc. or the name of it (in my opinion it is not) or is it limited to a
certain surface such as a quarter of a city, a city, village, region, province, region, community, country, etc.
**** YOU ARE RIGHT , PLACE NAME CAN BE BRIDGE NAME, TOWER NAME, NAME OF BOTANIC GARDEN OR GARDEN BUT NOT BRIDGE, TOWER, BOTANIC GARDEN ( THESE
ARE TOO GENERAL). SOME TIMES YOU DONT HAVE SPECIFIC NAMES FOR PLACES, FOR EXAMPLE HA.RBOR, CITY CENTER, MARKET AREA; IN THAT CASE ITS OK TO SELECT
THEM
ITS NOT LIMITED TO quarter of a city, a city, village, region, province, region, community, country
I HOPE I ANSWERED YOUR QUESTIONS CLEARLY.
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF U, SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN REPLYING.
I'M STILL LOOKING FOR MORE PARTICIPANTS, IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU FORWARD IT YOUR CONTACTS, ANY STUDENT GROUPS YOU BELONG TO, UNIVERSITY MAILINGS.
