egea Forum - Feedback - N E W: Introducing egea video calling

Hans - 8-11-2007 at 23:48

Hi there,

introducing the latest webtechnology at the egea website first...

I couldn't help but implement one more feature on the egea website: It's now possible to talk in live audio & video to your fellow egea friends, right here - on the egea website itself! :spin: Using a new webservice (tokbox) that allows video calling embedded on websites, everybody can now install a video call box on his or her egea profile.

What does it look like? Take a look at my profile, and you'll see the video call box. If i'm online (and if I have my own profile page opened as well) any other egea member can give me call and we can chat over live video, right at my profile.

To have this video call box at your profile page too, please go to your own profile page and follow the information under the video call info box (on the left).

Some important remarks about this feature

Any other questions / comments? Please let me know in this topic, or give me a call! ;)

damned malaka! I only wanted to protect the EGEA community.(8}

but I'm sure it is not the case, it will generate way too much traffic.

Solved (i had made the input field for email address to short)

And Gert; people only can see you when a call connection has been established (they call you; you accept the call). It's not a internet webcam that transmits images to whoever views your profile.

I have a little problem with tokbox and firefox. Always, when i open someones profile who is using tokbox my browser is collapsing after a few seconds. then i have to restart firefox... my firefox is up-to-date (2.0.0.10)... does anyone else have the same problem?

btw. i didn't register to use tokbox and i won't do it in future... might this be a reason?

Dorin - 29-11-2007 at 22:33

I have the same problem!! But I don't use firefox, only the internet explorer. I uninstalled it on my profile, but each profile I open and tokbox is installed then my pc always shuts down.. :(

elm - 29-11-2007 at 22:57

maybe it's a bavarian bug... 8;7

FloFi - 29-11-2007 at 23:34

....my firefox does not have any problem with it - using V2.0.0.10. If it is a bavarian bug I will not dare to use it during the weekend ;)

maybe you should remove some of your sidebars elm! that often helped in many cases - just an insider-tip ;)

Haven't been able to replicate the problem, and also haven't found reports of similar problems with tokbox on other websites (yet).
Maybe it has something to do with the Flash-plugin, maybe something else - hard to tell :(

No, that´s very unlikely to be the problem.

If anyone else has the same problems please report, because of course egea member's profiles should be accessible for everyone without crashing browsers.

elm - 8-1-2008 at 18:42

ok... quite simple solution... as u said flash plugin caused some trouble, not only with tokbox. after updating adobe flash player to the newest version all problem are gone... :) birgit, maybe u should try the same...

Rink - 27-3-2009 at 19:03

Tokbox upgraded about a week ago. I updated my stuff at tokbox, but ... I can´t change the embed code in my profile.

Would the webstaff be so kind to update it? Not that I use Tokbox.. but still... what not is can still come.
