Before the annual congress in Heeg takes places, EGEA Utrecht organises an adventurous journey through different parts of the Netherlands which will
end at the congress location. The perfect way to see more of the country and a chance to meet other AC participants and get into the congress mood.
We can’t reveal the whole program yet, but a sure thing is that we’ll visit Utrecht and the capital Amsterdam and its surroundings.
The journey will start on the 24th of September in sunny Utrecht, and will end on the 27th of September at the congress location in the northern
province of Freezeland (Friesland in dutch). In between there will be time for adventure, sightseeing, BBQ, and partying. There will be place for
around 50 participants.
Sounds good? The pre-AC website will be available soon.
We hope to see you all!

On the 25th of April 2009, the starting shot of the 37th edition of the Batavierenrace, held in the Netherlands, will sound. It is a relay race over
185 km from Nijmegen to Enschede, divided into 25 stages (17 men's stages and 8 women's stages) varying from 3.4 km to 11.9 km. More than 300 teams
(which means more than 7,500 students) participate in this race. This number of participants gave us a mention in the Guinness Book of Records. What's
unique about this race is the mixture of a competitive as well as a social event. At midnight on the 25th of April, the race starts and the first
runners will then dive into the night for their heroic battle against the elements and the temptations of a warm bed. This is the beginning of 18
hours of sportsmanship, which means you arrive in Enschede the 26th of April. Afterwards, the biggest student party in the Netherlands takes place,
with over 12,000 visitors! In brief, a nice opportunity to be out with your team for a few days and definitely a great experience!
EGEA Nijmegen willl arrange a team. If you want to stay some days before or afterwards in Nijmegen you're welcome!

Hey friends!!! EGEA St-Petersburg proudly represents:
Motivation weekend in VELIKY
NOVGOROD!!!
Spring is coming & it's getting warmer day after day... m-m-m!!! That's why what could be better rather than go all together somewere?!
Why Veliky Novgorod?
Veliky Novgorod (in Russian: Вели́кий Но́вгород) is the foremost historic city of North-Western Russia. Despite its name, Novgorod is
among the most ancient cities among the Eastern Slavs. The Sofia First Chronicle first mentions it in 859. Archaeological excavations in the middle to
late twentieth century have found cultural layers dating back only to the late tenth century, the time of the Christianization of Rus.

At the weekend we're going to be thoroughly acquainted with historical part of this great land: Kremlin, fortress, monasteries, churches, cathedral...
its ancient architecture & beautiful nature!!
Also we'll have some competitions during excursion & party at night!
more information about program you'll read soon!
Hope to see you in Novgorod

Orange Legion, Tartan Army, and assorted sympathisers,
David and myself want to go and watch the Scotland vs The Netherlands
game next year. We will depart, in kilt, with as many compatriots as
possible. I would like to invite you to join us! Get your kilt on or
orange outfit, and lets all go to the same pub together to watch the
game!
Lets organise ourselves soon, as prices for transport will start to
rise soon. We could go on the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam at
around £115 return which would be overnight (pissed on the ferry - be
a great laugh) and we would share cabins.
Let me know if you will join us by boat or by plane, or if (Dutchies!)
you would like to have a few Scots to stay!
Geert van Woerden is trying to organise to see both matches in the stadium, and is considering attaching some days to the trip, a tour of the
Netherlands, as people might want to see some sights too.
Please pass this on to others you think would be up for it!

The main workshop’s topic: the importance of a cultural heritage like a symbol(s) of the country.
Workshop’s description
Cultural heritage is the legacy of physical artifacts and intangible attributes of a group or society that are inherited from past generations,
maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future generations. Often though, what is considered cultural heritage by one generation may
be rejected by the next generation, only to be revived by a succeeding generation.
Physical or “tangible cultural heritage” includes buildings and historic places, monuments, artifacts, etc., that are considered worthy of
preservation for the future. These include objects significant to the archaeology, architecture, science or technology of a specific culture. This
kind of heritage sites often serve as an important component in a country's tourist industry, attracting many visitors from abroad as well as locally.
Could that be harmful?
The heritage that survives from the past is often unique and irreplaceable, which places the responsibility of preservation on the current generation.
Smaller objects such as artworks and other cultural masterpieces are collected in museums and art galleries.
Cultural heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural heritage is
irreplaceable source of life and inspiration.
World cultural heritage sites belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located. But also some of the
sites are deeply in local people mind like the symbols of the past, war, freedom, religion, high culture and originality, etc.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seek to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of
cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. Some of the cultural sites are inscribed on the list
of World Heritage in Danger.
In our workshop we are going to discuss about the importance of the cultural objects like a symbols of the country in the world. Is it very important
to become a member of the UNESCO to have possibility to protect cultural objects and sites? UNESCO cultural objects and tentative sites (they lay
claim to become on the UNESCO list). How did the local government could take care about that? What kind of threats is for the objects and sites
(tourism, urbanization, etc.)? The main subject’s we discuss is:
Cultural objects and sites like symbols of the country (region or city);
Possibilities and measures of protection
Threat’s for the sites and objects
Importance of the UNESCO
Culture in the advertisement
Workshop leaders: Tomas Bedulskis (EGEA Vilnius) and Gintas Misiūnas (EGEA Vilnius).

Dear all,
we are happy to announce the Committee and Congress Organisers Training Weekend!
As you all might know, we succesfully applied for EU-money this year. Since we have to spend this money in a way it will improve EGEA, we decided to
invest in a special meeting where both Committee Contact Persons and Congress Organisers will exchange knowledge and learn from 'experienced
organisers'.
We've found the entity of Vienna so kind to host us for this meeting.
Some more precise details:
*Unfortunately, the meeting is not an open event, but only for an invited group of active EGEAns. All together will be present (we invited):
- CP1 and CP2 from SciComm, ActComm, OffComm and EntSuppComm (Spokesperson and Secretary) (8 in total)
- Main organiser of WRC, ERC, NBRC, EuroMedRC and Martinus as ACO 2009 (5 in total)
- Kamila (Committee Coordinator) and Jeroen (Webcomm Coordinator) on behalf of BoE (2 in total)
Furthermore some EGEA Vienna members will join (and assist) as well as two very experienced organisers/teamcoachers.
*The meeting will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of December in Vienna.
* At day-time we will have workshop sessions where we will focus on:
1. Leadership (how to motivate a committee/orga-team)
2. Communication (how to use tools -e.g. website- for efficient communication)
3. Do's and don't (learning from experiences of previous committees/orgateams)
* At night we will of course join the social activities already announced by Lole: HERE
I invite all participants to inform the organisation about their arrival and departure time in Vienna in order to arrange accommodation for all of
you.
Please POST your arrival and departure time by replying on this forum-topic.
Looking forward to meet you in Vienna!!
Greetz,
Jeroen

2000 years ago, the roman empire was on its way to the north, conquering more and more of the territiories we call "Germany" today. German tribes were
acting separated, not able to resist the perfect war machine of the world empire...
After crossing the rhine river, 3 legions consisting of 20.000 soldiers were heading forward to conquer the "teutoburg forest", the last narrow gate
to the north-western territories.
But there was one man, knowing their tactics, uniting the german tribes...and finally stopping the roman legions - Arminius, so called "Hermann"!
The participants of "Germany Weekend`08" will be divided in 3 legions, stepping back in time, learning about history, geology and today`s importance
of the "Eastern Westphalias Heart - The Teutoburg forest"

Changing Climate - Changing People? The impact of Global Environmental Change on the European Society
Introduction
The process of global warming is not deniable anymore. Even in areas of moderate climate, floods and draughts are affecting the peoples’ lives. But
still, many people in the countries of Europe don’t see the problem yet. In order to prevent society from the worst consequences it is important to
change old habits as well as establish sustainable solutions in economy, technology or public transportation. We have to take action now in order to
reduce the impact of climate change in the future. Due to the importance of the topic, the two student networks Aegee and Egea have decided to host a
conference on the topic of the Impact of global environmental change on the European society.
Concept
The main object of this conference is strengthening the knowledge of young academics from all over Europe. We want to synergize by combining both the
"experts"-knowledge of geographers (EGEA) and the interdisciplinary perspective of Aegee, another European Student Organization.

Proudly presented by Students’ Representative Office of Faculty of Natural sciences, Vilnius University, The COINS 2008 is an annual international
conference for students of nature sciences. Taking place in March 2008, this year’s conference is an anniversary: the young scientists are welcome
for the fifth time already. The aims of the conference are:
o Encouraging students’ interaction and communication in scientific, social and cultural fields;
o Motivating students to do scientific research;
o Educating young conscious scientists, who are aware of and tend to reach for their goal.
o Acquainting students with the newest scientific trends;
o Giving students an opportunity to present their research to international audience;
One of the main aims of the COINS 2008 conference, as mentioned above, is to motivate the students to do research in various fields of nature
sciences. Accordingly, the range of themes chosen by participants is expected to be very wide. Consequently, the young scientists’ presentations,
due to the branch represented, will be grouped into three sections:
In section DEEP, introduced newly this year, the students are encouraged to dig, descend or even dive deeper while doing their research in Hidrology,
Geography, Geology, Meteorology etc.;
Section WIDE is about to gather “classical” naturalists, such as students of Botany, Zoology and Ecology, which are emboldened to explore as
widely as possible;
HIGH is a section including presentations of authors, ready to prove to be reaching for higher crossbars in facing the challenges of Biotechnology,
Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and other modern fields.
After presenting their works to and answering the questions of jury and the audience, the participants will have their presentations evaluated by
specialists of related fields and all students will receive the certificates confirming their participation. Furthermore, the authors of the best
works will be awarded. While the most of attention is paid to the presentations of the participating students, organizers also put all effort into
fulfilling participants’ leisure and cultural activities (see in Programme) and expanding their scientifical horizons by arranging interesting
lectures of professors from Lithuania and abroad (read more in chapter Lecturers). The COINS 2008 is not only a conference. It is a challenge to dig
deeper, seek wider and reach higher. Do you take the challenge?

You don’t have any plans yet for the 17th to 20th of August 2007? What about spending some time in the Swiss Alps?
EGEA Bern organizes the first Switzerland weekend. It will take place in a mountain cabin on 1546m over sea level in the Diemtigtal
valley (www.diemtigtal-tourismus.ch) about 1.5 hours drive south from Bern.
We don’t plan to have a very full program but to decide rather spontaneously about our activities… There will be plenty of time for hiking,
relaxing, swimming in one of the mountain lakes, barbecueing, talking, enjoying the view, breathing clean mountain air, partying, eating cheese and
chocolate, sleeping, sunbathing, drinking beer, discussing geographical topics… and so on… just having a good time.
To subscribe for this unique experience send an email with following information to egea@giub.unibe.ch: name, entity, address, birth
date and if you are vegetarian. We cannot tell you the exact costs yet but it will be around 50 euros depending on our activities and how much you
drink…
We are looking forward to seeing you in the mountains!

EGEA Moscow is glad to present you the most faraway expedition ever organised - the Baikal lake trip!
THE REGISTRATION IS OPEN AND WILL LAST TILL JANUARY 10th!
You may find the application form here
Just to refresh your knowledge, the Baikal lake is the unique natural object with the following characteristics:
- the deepest lake in the world;
- the purest water in it;
- the endangerous species live there in (like nerpas (small seals) and omuls);l
- only one river flows out of it;
- it is surrounded with various mountain ranges;
- ecologal conditions attract attention of scientists and usual people all over the world!
And we have to see it, to feel it, to touch it, to explore it, to swim in it, to enjoy its microclimate, to cross it, to taste the fish from it, to
realise the spirit of it and to discover all the secrets of it together... next summer...
The program of the expedition is already worked out in all the details and we are proud to present it right now. We start from Moscow
and finish there as well.
So, here it is!!!
First I would like to say that we changed the route a bit... We have estimated both positive and negative sides of teh previous one and decided that
there were too much uncertainties and dangers with transportation facilities. Moreover, 10 days is not much for such a great route, full of unexpected
things and hidden dangers. We will be FULLY responsible for you during all your trip at least, and during your stay in Russia as a whole...
So to reduce all the factors of hazards, I would like to present you the new route!
June 28th - we start by train from Moscow, go through Transsiberian railroad and travel 3 days...
July 2nd - we arrive to Slyudyanka and start our travelling by the "excursion train" called "Matanya" till port Baikal via all the tunnels, aqueducs
etc. The information about the Circle Baikal Railway, the old part of the Transsiberian railway, you may find here
http://baikal.irtel.ru/eng/e_service.htm
Our final point for this day is the house-hotel "Nadezhda" at the top of the mountain on the bank of the Angara river and with the view on the Baikal
Lake (Pictures of "Nadezhda" you may find here http://www.nadega.angara.ru/1-1.htm and
http://www.nadega.angara.ru/3-1.htm
You'll have dinner and early breakfast here, included in accommodation price!
July 3rd - We start early in the morning (at 6.00 a.m.), take the ferry boat and sail to the Olkhon island where we'll arrive approximately at 14.00.
There we'll be met by our hosts and will be transfered to Khuzhir - the largest town on Olkhon, where we'll stay at the hotel-house of Nikita
Bencharov (the accommodation possibilities you may find here http://www.olkhon.info/ru/accom/)
This day we'll have a small walk to the huge sand dunes, after that we'll go to the beach and we'll take the first attempt to swim in the Baikal
Lake!!!
After that you'll have free time - you may take a bike, rent a horse or just walk around yourself.
And in the evening we'll go to BANYA - Russian Sauna!
July 4th - this day we'll travel to the Northern Cape of the Olkhon island by several mini buses - the Choboi Cape. There we'll have dinner from the
cooked OMUL (the tastiest fish of Baikal) and UKHA (traditional Russian fish soup), prepared on fire!
And again banya...
July 5th - this day we'll go to the
Shara-Nur Lake (from the Buryat language - 'Yellow Lake". It is the mineralized lake of the island, of course we'll swim there... And will get
minerals! While swimming your body seems to be red... But it is really healthy!
And Banya again...
Note*: Three times meal is included in accomodation price during all our stay at Olkhon!
July 6th - we'll leave the Olkhon island early in the morning by bus, which will be transfered along with us by ferry accross the Maloe More (S,all
Sea) Strait and we'll arrive
to Elantsy! Here we'll meet the most famous 6-fingered Buryat Shaman who'll take us around the steppes beauty and will tell about Baikal Soul Origin
and about traditions of his people!
July 7th - we'll leave early in the morning to Irkutsk by bus... And will arrive there approximately at 15.00! After we leave our clothes in the
students' hostel, and will go to the faculty of geography of Irkutsk State University!
July 8th - we'll go around the citwill see the Irkutsk hydroelectrostation, city's beauty and the Angara river!
And in the evening we'll go back to Moscow...
Now about the way back...
There will be two possibilities:
1) for those who are in a hurry - we'll take plane from Irkutsk to Moscow
3) for those who would like to save money but not time - train
from Irkutsk to Moscow
And now about all the expenses...
The presented below price includes:
- tickets from and back to Moscow
- Accommodation
- Meals (included in accommodation and calculated approximately when we'll stay in Irkutsk and while travelling by train)
- Excursions
- All the interior transportation within the trip (ferries, buses, cars)
And it will be maximum...
Variant A: back to Moscow from Irkutsk by train
The total Cost will be - 550 EUR
Variant B: back to Moscow from Irkutsk by plane
The total Cost will be - 650 EUR
These costs are calculated taking into account all the unpredictable risks! If some money remain, we'll give it back to you, and I believe they
will!
Registration: IS OPEN NOW! Please find the application form attached to this post!!!
Maximum amoun of participants: only 20 (we'll try to take more different entities).
Payment Procedure: We will ask you to transfer some part of money to buy the tickets at least. We'll be able to tell more a bit later... May be there
will be an option to transfer it to the bank account of some entity within EU, and we'll just take it then.. But we'll see. The prepayment will have
to be done till the end of January! Other amount of money you will take with you to your trip!
Visa Application: The issue of invitation letter in Russia is also payable, it costs 7 EUR. Please transfer this sum together with prepayment. The
invitation letters will be sent out to you in the Middle of February or will be brought to WRC and will be sent out from Netherlands to provide the
fast and reliable delivery. You may also receive your invitation letters later on at NBRC, ERC if you come there. You will have enough time to apply
for Russian visa after them.
Precaution Measures: As we travel to Baikal in summer, it will be the time of the high activity of the encephalite mite, you MUST do in advance the
vaccinacition from encephalitis! and to provide the reference that it was done! We'll ask you to scan this confirmation and to send it by email to us.
Those who won't undertake this procedure, won't be accepted to the trip!
please be aware that it is just a standard vaccinacition, which should be made twice (in 2 weeks difference between two vaccinations) - then you'll
secure yourself and will help all the group to escape troubles!
I think that is all... For your reference and pleasure below I'll attach some maps of the lake!
Don't miss it!!! Join us! Every geographer has to see the Baikal lake at least once in life...
Kind regards,
Anastasia

its natural resources and beauty. The area of active protection covers 25.525 square kilometers and its main characteristic is the existence of
numerous protected, rare and endangered species of both flora and fauna. National Park Fruska Gora is a member of EUROPARC - Federation of Nature and

EGEA Novi Sad is currently organizing a pilot project new in EGEA Foundation and for the first time in Department of Geography, Tourism and Hotel
Management in Novi Sad. It is EGEA Job Fair (official name is Poslovi u turizmu- Berza mladih strucnjaka u turizmu, meaning Jobs in Tourism- Market of
Young Tourism Experts.
Although EGEA Alumni doesn't has any official members from Novi Sad, there are some Egeans that have already graduated and are less active in EGEA,
but they are still pretty much invovled. As some of the Alumni activities are help with employment, our "Novi Sad Alumni" came to idea to organize
such an event. Most of the students in Serbia don't have a clue what to do after they get their diploma. First step in career is still pretty much
unknown. The goal of the project is to fight unemployment among young experts in such fields like geosciences, tourism and hotel industry. (The reason
why there is such an accent on tourism is because our Department is mostly orientated to tourism geography). The mean for that are lectures divided in
three following days:
11. April
-How to write a CV?
-How to prepare yourself for a job interview?
-How do Human Resources agencies work?
12. April
-Career planning
-Networking
-Selfemployment
13. April
-Presentation of National Employment Service
-Inside Laibour Law
14. April
-Job Fair
Job Fair is the highlight of the project. Students will be given the opportunity to have direct contact with the companies, and companies can pick the
students with best qualities for their vacant jobs. We hope to create a win-win x 2 situation:
1. Students to find a job and to be prepared for the first step in their career
2. Companies to find best young experts for themselves
3. Strong marketing for our department
4. Strong marketing for EGEA
We have support from our profesors that are very excited and optimistis about the whole project (they want to make it an annual event), while the
members of the organization team are a bit reserved. It's a new event for us and EGEA, we organize it for the first time, and after that we will make
an evaluation and give an official report.
Looking forward to your comments!
Best regards,
EGEA Novi Sad- EGEA Job Fair Organization Team

AHoi Nederlanders, Servus/Hey Deutsche Leute & hey Belgen!!
The BeNDeluxweekend "Battle of Bastogne 07" is finally coming!! And the beautifull city of Bastogne and its environment will be the place to be, the
battlefield for these three days of Egea-Fun!!!
This region of Bastogne, next to the Belgian-Luxembourg border, is located in the Ardens. It is a region famous for its many activities and
possibilities. The sceneray betrays itself that it is perfectly suited for rafting, bicycle tours, canoeing, speleology and lots more! Next to that,
the Ardens also offer lots of opportunities for interesting excursions in social and physical geography, and besides that, it is famous for its
richness in geological history.
Next to all these tempting facts, Bastogne also played a major role in the 'battle of the Ardens', at the end of world war II. The beautiful village
and its folklore are also worth visiting!!
So, as you can see, lots of possibilities to turn the bendelux weekend a great, adventourous, interesting, attractive and definately not to miss
Egea-Event!!!
The weekend will take place from friday 30th of March untill sunday 2th of April. More details and exact time schedules will be given after
registration!

say that also German entities are invited!!!May we hereby ask to all entities to send a priority list before the 19th of february!!!!!Based on that we
will try to make a well-balanced participant list combining all nationalities/entities.
Depending on the number of registrations, it is possible that people from other non-BeNDelux EGEA entities will be accepted too. So don't hesitate to
register, but keep in mind that BeNDeLux entities have priority!!!

"Quiet villages and gentle, welcoming people may be the words that best describe the Maramureş region, situated in northwestern Romania .
Centuries-old traditions are still alive in the rural areas of Maramureş: in late afternoon, old women sit outside their gates coaxing coarse wool
onto spindles. Many still favour the traditional dress, white flounced blouses and striped woven aprons covering full black skirts, headscarves and
"opinci", a sort of leather ballet slipper from which heavy yarn criss-crosses over thick socks. On Sundays, even little girls wear this garb"
Want to discover this romanian spirit?

Dear EGEAns!
As the region of Bern was covered by a thick layer of ice during the last glacial maximum, leftovers of glacial erosion are still present in the
landscape. To see those remains and to learn more about glaciers and their power in building landscapes and the variation of climate in time is the
main goal of the ice age seminar.
We organized the ice-age seminar not in the traditional workshop style. There will be teams working on different sub-aspects of glaciers and ice-ages,
but all participants will join the same excursions led by an expert.

Hello, Egeans
We would like to invite environmental sciences students from all Europe to the 1st European Environmental sciences student meeting called EURENSSA
2006 (EURopean ENvironmental Sciences Student Association 2006).
ABOUT EURENSSA
EURENSSSA 2006 is one week open-air meeting of environmental sciences and ecology students from all over Europe which will take place from 17th –
23rd July 2006. It is organized by the Student Association of geology, geography and earth science students in collaboration with the faculty of
Geography and Earth sciences, the University of Latvia.
The idea of EURENSSA is to learn more about the environment and its related subjects during various field trips and lectures held by professors and
experts, to gain on-hand experience during team-work and discussions, to share your experience during presentations and many other events. Another
important aspect of EURENSSA is to get contacts, to get to know each other, and to have a lot of fun, of course! That is why EURENSSA is an excellent
platform for understanding among different nations. Furthermore, every participant may profit from contacts with other countries, for example, when
looking for a traineeship or studies at a university abroad.
The program includes such themes as nature protection and degradation actualities in Latvia, the diversity of the Baltic Sea costal area and
consequent environmental concerns, the modelling of city’s sustainable development, the examples of successful environmental problem solutions and
visits to cultural-historical landscapes and monuments. This is a possibility to apply your unique knowledge in a different environment, to compare
the aspects of environmental sciences in various countries and to get to know the experience in environmental sciences internationally.
The official language at the meeting is English. The participation fee is 60 Euros for participants from EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland
and 30 Euros for participants who need visa for entering Latvia. You can find more information about EURENSSA 2006 together with the application form
on http://eurenssa.lu.lv.
Hope to see you in Latvia!

Midsummer Party is one of the most important events in Finland. That's why EGEA Helsinki will party like crazy on this wonderful weekend... It would
be great if our EGEA friends from other entities could join us!
The sun doesn't set during the whole night (if there are no clouds, you can even see it!!), its light shines on the lake where you are floating in a
boat, relaxing with your friends, swimming... The smoke sauna is hot, the beer, however, is cold!
There is no official programme but there are many interesting, fun and very Finnish things (like fishing and digging potatoes from the ground...) to
do. It's up to you how you want to spend your days and nights! Everyone will participate in cooking and cleaning, everyone will pay for their own
food and drinks, we'll sleep (if we sleep) in tents and there are no showers. All the travelling costs are for everyone to pay by him/herself but the
accommodation is free!
The party place is in Eastern Finland, which is famous for friendly people and beautiful nature. Midsummer is known for drinking, falling from boats,
burning a bonfire and sun light all day and night long... Who could resist this combination?!
The programme will be something like this:
(All the times are here just to give you an idea of the plans we made.. Anyway, the main idea is just to relax and not to be stressed about the
schedule )
THURSDAY 22.6.
8.00 Departure from Helsinki, road-tripping through Lake Finland, sightseeing
(the driving time from Helsinki to Kuopio without any stops is ~ 4-5 hours)
16.00 Arrival at Kuopio, a dinner
(the driving time from Kuopio to the cottage is ~ 1 hour)
18.00 Arrival at Hiukkastenlahti, the cottage. Accommodation etc.
20.00 Sauna, barbeque - - party, whatever
FRIDAY 23.6.
10.00 Excursion in Savo Region (some geomorphological attractions, monastery of Valamo etc..)
14.00 Back to the cottage, lunch
Building the bonfire, cutting the birches, decoration, preparations for the evening, heating the smoke sauna (takes 5-6 hours)
19.00 Smoke sauna - - party - - games
23.20 Sunset
Lighting the bonfire around midnight (only if there is no forest fire warning given) and some
SATURDAY 24.6.
12.00 Rowing to the rocky islands - - fishing - -swimming etc..
17.00 Motorboat ride around Lake Suvasvesi and to meteorite crater
20.00 Sauna or smoke sauna - - party etc.
SUNDAY 25.6.
Around 14.00 Departure. Back to Helsinki.

The EGEA in Germany World Cup Special
We tried to cover every city with a contact person from EGEA, so you know whom to contact to find a bed and to watch the match with, have a beer and a
party after and to keep you in the spirit!!!!!!!!!
(unfortunately it didn't really work out for Hamburg and Stuttgart, but whatever)
Travel tip:
How to get around?
By Train: Trains are efficent, fast and expensive, although the Deutsche Bahn offers as well a few special tickets and you can save money if you book
in advance online and as a bigger group. Still Wochend Ticketsa and the „Ländertickets“ (Valid for one Bundesland) help as well to save money.
They are valid on slow trains for a group of five for a whole day and cost about 30 Euros. More details you will find at www.bahn.de.
By Bus: Beside some conncetion to Berlin, there are not so many inter-city Busroutes. But you can save a lot of money, traveling to Germany by Bus.
Buslines are available to all bigger german cities. Check www.eurolines.com.
By Carsharing: The cheapest and most interestingh way to get around. Its a unique german way to travel. You can either go for a „Mitfahrzentrale“
and ask for registered rides to other cities or visit the homepage www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de or alternatively www.mitfahrzentrale.de . There you can
choose between the cities you want to go and see when, which rides are available, call the driver, arrange a meetingpoint and go cheap to your
destination. Its the bit more „planable“ alternative for hitchhiking, which is usualy as well no problem! If you hitchhike, keep in mind rule no.1
in Germany: Never leave the Autobahn!
By plane: Each Big City has its low budget Airport close by. To travel from abroad its easy, internal cheap flights are limited, but try
www.germanwings.de or www.dba.de. They offer a few.

Hello everyone,
This is just a post to see if anyone would be interested in taking part in the exploration of the industrial heritage of Glasgow, with a special focus
on the old, no longer used, railway tunnels under the city.
Who would be interested in participating or organising?
The great thing about glasgow is that market forces play a great role in the development of the city, meaning that much of the infrastructure from the
industrial age can still be found.
By exploring these monuments of Glasgows industrial golden age, we can understand the historical and geographical development of Glasgow, and consider
the impact of this age upon Glasgow and its culture.
Of course, you will have lots of time to sightsee and go shopping, and a trip to a pub or the football can be arranged should any of you so desire.
The dates for this are yet to be confirmed, but i'm thinking about having it at the beginning of April. I hope to organise free accomodation, but,
sadly, no flats here have jacuzzis...
If any of you might be interested in this, or would like further information, then please either get in touch with me, or post a reply.
Best wishes,
Willem

For some time already there has been a lot of enthusiasm in EGEA Zagreb to organise an EGEA event, so we came to the idea to organize a New Year in
Croatia!!!
WHEN? from the 29th of December 2005 till the 3rd of January 2006!
WHERE? the Rudolf Steiner school in a picturesque little town of Daruvar in the western Slavonia

HOW MUCH? 60 euros (6 days and 5 nights included; food; excursions; drinks at the New Year's Eve)
NUMBER OF PLACES? 40 + 10 organization
SOME INFO ABOUT THE PLACES WE ARE GOING TO VISIT?
Daruvar was named the most beautiful little town in 2004 and it's famous for the old castle, city park, spa bath ; tradition of producing wine since the Roman times (2200 years!) + producing beer nowadays ; interesting for the minorities living there (Czech, Hungarian and Serbian) and the
beautiful nature surrounding it!

Other places we are going to visit include the region of Hrvatsko Zagorje with the old castles;
the baroque city of Varazdin, one of the economically most propulsive areas in Croatia;

ethno village Kumrovec with the birthplace of Marshall Tito; and Zagreb - the capital and economical, cultural center of Croatia!

For the people interested to come to Leuven to join us for the Christmas party, a social programme will be prepared for Thursday 22 December. You
can't visit Belgium without seeing Brussel, so thats what we are planning to do. After arriving around noon, all Christmas party people will be
directed towards their shelter for the night. Afterwards, around 14h, we meet in the STUK-bar in the center of Leuven, to have a small welcome drink.
STUK is an art complex in an old building of the University of Leuven, renovated in a nice modern style since 2000, where culture lovers can find
anything they look for (dance - theather - mucis - musea - movies... )
Afterwards, Belgian railway lines will be checked for the trip to Brussels. As it has to be, christmas tradition will be respected and the christmas
market will be visited!! This market is the largest one in Belgium with wooden stables scattered on various squares, with christmas stuff, artisanal
Belgian products, and delicious food...All this is graced by an ice-skating rink, a huge huge christmas tree, a Ferris wheel, and so on. On the big
market you can find the "Electrabelnights", huge transparent balls of 3 m high which present the Atomium. This will definately warm all of you to head
back to Leuven in the evening to join the Geographers Christmas Party!
Now, what is it all about? Each year Leuven Geographers have an extra-ordinary, out of the universe christmas party, organised by geographer students
in their second year of education. They prepare appetizers, tasty menu's, desserts and afterwards entertain us with a theatrical performance. But
that's not all! The evening ends up in an unpublished party with great music, lots of drinks and many chances for meeting geographer students and
Professors.
For more details, see our website or feel free to contact us!!
Cheers,
Egea Leuven

after a longer period of decision-making, vienna was "chosen" to host the participants of this preparatory meeting.
normal organisations have their subsections for younger people. but egea needs a subsection for its older members, who finished their studies and
leave their universities and entities.
the possibilties and how to implement them, will be discussed during that weekend.
maybe we will be able to communicate via internet with those who can´t come. so stay tuned to the egea-site during these days to be able to
contribute sth. to our meeting.

Hi folks,
i´d like to invite a bunch of you to have an interesting beer-excursion through franconia in end of june.
Beerography of Franconia
a 3-Day-Excursion to the Heartland of the German Beer: Franconia!
a region mostly unknown to the people living abroad, often mistaken as a part of Bavaria and that only because Napoleon gave it to the Duke of Bavaria
in 1803, can be seen as the heart of german beerography.
Frankonia has the highest density of breweries in the world (1 brewery on ca. 4.500 inhabitants in average). No other region in
Germany nor in the world has as many. About 280 of them are still producing beer, most of them as very small-scale, local manufactories.
The excursion:
day 1 Arrival in Forchheim
Depending on the weather-conditions, getting first impressions of this 1200-year-old town and its four local breweries inside the brewery-pubs or on the
Kellerberg, a wooded area on a hill with 24 beer garden.s

day 2 Excursion to Bamberg
the 70.000 inhabitant medieval town (UNESCO World Heritage) with its 9 local breweries and a brewery museum.
- city tour through the medieval town of bamberg
- visit of the franconian brewery museum

day 3: Brewery-Hiking in the Franconian Switzerland.
In this national park located to east of Bamberg, 71 breweries still exist. Unfortunately we will not be able to vistit them all, but
hopefully will have a pleasant tour through the hilly region with a few refreshing stops.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Accomodation: Your nest will be situated in an old power plant building, serving now as The Marshall Brainstorm Entertainment GbR Headquaters Matrasses will be organised, so youll have to bring some
covers, sleeping bags and pillows on your own.
Transportation: We will depend on public transportation. This will also be the main part of the costs youll have to face for this trip (beside of your
beers).

from south: A3 To Kreuz Erlangen/Fürth, get on A73 to "Bamberg", get off at "Forchheim-Süd" and follow signs to "Bayreuth"

*EGEA Glasgow is happy to present more information about the first ever EGEA Islands Weekend!!!*
The weekend will take place from Friday 11th March until Sunday 13th March 2005 in the lovely town of Moffat in the beautiful Scottish Borders
region.
We'll stay at the Well Road Centre (http://www.dalbeattie.com/moffat/wellroadcentre) which is a lovely big house that we get all to ourselves and has loads of
space and possibilities to do great activities!!!
The weekend has several aims:
-to get more Glasgow University students involved in EGEA and to ensure the survival of EGEA Glasgow (the rest of us are getting old and will have to
retire soon...)
-to help get more students involved from the recently-established entities of Belfast and Newcastle
-to get some other Scottish universities involved in EGEA
-and of course to show Scotland to EGEAns from the rest of Europe!!!
During the weekend we will explore Moffat and go some walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside, play games, practise our Scottish country
dancing at a traditional ceilidh (and hopefully the Irish equivalent!), and take part in other traditional Scottish, English and Irish activities (not
sure about Welsh yet!)!! We also plan to have some 'What is EGEA?' events for new participants.
The weekend will cost £35, for accommodation, food, activities, and lots of alcohol as well ... Moffat is about 1.5hrs south of Glasgow by bus - more
info later...
So! - who would like to come to Scotland??!! We can take at least 15 EGEAns from elsewhere in Europe...
So, please start promoting the EGEA Islands Weekend at your entity meetings and university!! More soon!

On behalf of EGEA Glasgow I'd like to invite any interested EGEAns to the University of Glasgow Jogsok (geography society) annual Burns Supper and
Ceilidh.
This is an event to celebrate the life of our national poet, Rabbie Burns, for more information on him check out http://www.rabbie-burns.com/index.cfm.
It basically involves a big traditional Scottish meal with speeches about Rabbie Burns' life, followed by a party with traditional Scottish music and
dancing.
We've been running the event for several years, and it's always lots of fun. This year we hope to hold the event on 26th January, the day after Burns'
Night.
We want to invite EGEAns to celebrate this event with us, and hope to host 10-15 people , but possibly more if demand is high.
If you want to come a few days earlier and stay a few days later we can organise a short program of trips around Scotland and take you to some
lectures at our university.
Of course there's always opportunities for other parties too... So if you're interested in visiting us in Glasgow in January, post your name and
entity here as soon as possible! Looking forward to hearing from you...

Hello everyone,
This is just a general post to see if anyone would be interested in taking part in a weekend long visit to some of the important religious sites in
Scotland, to find out about the historical and geographical development of religion in the country, and consider the impact of the church upon
Scottish culture. Since the history of the church in Scotland is so pivotal to the country's history in general, this may equally be of interest to
those with a broader interest in Scotland, beyond the immediate focus on churches.
The plan would be to split this into two parts. First, we would look at the story of the church in Glasgow - a city both shaped and often identified
by its ecclesiastical history. This would take the form of a walking tour through the city on the Saturday morning, going from the original heart of
the town to the newer West End, tracing the historical and geographical development of religion in the city, and stopping for a while to hear about
and have a look inside some of the old churches. There would also be a chance to visit the museum of religious life, which contains Salvadore Dali's
famous painting of the crucifixion of Christ.
The next day we would travel to Edinburgh and do a similar kind of thing, but concentrate this time upon religious sites that are nationally
significant, and places that have been used in literature to encapsulate the Scottish religious experience.
Of course, you will have lots of time to sightsee and go shopping, and a trip to a church service or the football (both being the main religions
here!) can be arranged should any of you so desire. The dates for this are yet to be confirmed, but we're thinking about having it at the end of
January to fit in with our Geography Society's Burns' Night ceilidh. There is free accomodation available too but, sadly, most flats here don't have
jacuzzis...
If any of you might be interested in this, or would like further information, then please either get in touch with me, or post a reply.
Best wishes,
Allan.

Hello brothers and sisters!
Hereby EGEA Uppsala announce that we will happily invite you for a New Year party 30 Dec-2 Jan.
So, now that was said! These are the settings: a little cosy red cottage just outside Uppsala stands there waiting for us. It has no electricity nor
running water inside, but a lovely wood-heated stove, sparkling gas lights and beds for about 25 people.
The program is preliminar, but will most likely include sauna sweating, city guiding/games, and sliding in the snow. And some consumption of delicious
food, soft and not-so-soft drinks, and friendship.
So, what are you waiting for? Go check out our homepage and read all the details!
Skål och välkomna, luspudlar som borgarbrackor!
